Lombardy is one of the 20 regions of Italy and the most important.

Lombardy is one of the most populous and richest 

region in the country (a fifth of Italy's GDP is produced 

in the region) and one of the richest in the whole of Europe.

The capital is Milan, 3 airports (the most important after Rome),

 a lot of conference hotels, meeting venues and convention 

centers, but  in Lombardy you also have some more smaller

The lakes of Garda and Maggiore are considered a paradise

Greater Milan area

Milan Cathedral (Duomo)

Six centuries was necessary to complete the Gothic cathedral . It is the fifth largest cathedral in the world and the largest in the Italian state territory.   
The old baptistery (Battistero Paleocristiano, constructed in 335) still can be visited under the Milan Cathedral, it is one of the oldest Christian buildings in Europe.
The roof is open to tourists (for a fee), which allows many a close-up view of some spectacular sculpture that would otherwise be unappreciated.  .
